It's that time of year again for college students in Lincoln: Moveout Season

You paid enough rent, so you deserve to get your security deposit back.

Here are four straightforward tips to help you do just that and to leave your old place on a good note.

1. Plan Ahead

Make sure you have a few days between moving out of your old place and into your new one. This will give you time to clean thoroughly.

2. Clean and Fix

Clean your old place from top to bottom. If there are small repairs you can handle - like replacing stove drip pans - take care of them yourself.

3. Document Everything

Take photos of your clean and repaired space before handing over the keys. This will be your proof that you left the place in good condition.

4. Know Your Rights

Your landlord has 14 days to return your deposit. If there are any deductions, reach out to Student Legal Services for advice for how you might deal with the situation.
