Crimes in Nebraska are divided into three general categories based on their possible penalties: felonies, misdemeanors and infractions. Generally, felonies are crimes punishable by more than a year in prison. Misdemeanors are crimes punishable by no more than one year in jail. Infractions are crimes with a maximum penalty of a fine, with no possibility of jail time.
